StaffShare Addresses Shorter Working Week:
As the economic downturn puts pressure on employers of all sizes to cut costs, an increasing number of organisations are introducing a shorter working week, to reduce payroll costs until the economy recovers. StaffShare provides a route for staff to supplement their reduced income by engaging in short-term secondments to third sector organisations, who are in need of their specialist skills.
Employees who want to use StaffShare to make up the shortfall caused by a shorter working week are invited to register through their HR department for listing. Once their details (including availability, skillset etc) have been registered, third sector organisations will have the opportunity to search for staff with a view to short-term (in this case 1 day per week) secondments, which ensure that staff are retained by their existing employer, yet provide them with supplementary income.
TUC Supports Work Wise StaffShare:
"The TUC hopes that lots of organisations sign up to this innovative scheme which will keep people in employment whilst allowing third sector organisations to draw on specialist expertise."
"StaffShare is part of a new approach that is needed if we are to avoid the waste of talent and human tragedies that occur if companies rush prematurely into redundancies when conditions start to get tough."
Brendan Barber, Secretary General, TUC
